Building a fit for purpose farmhouse with sustainable materials was important to us and we wanted to ensure our carbon footprint was small both during construction and for the life of the building. This led us to use two main building materials, hempcrete and hardwood timber. Both renewable materials they were also chosen for their fire rating and high insulation properties and the impact on the environment at end of life.

The farmhouse is a solar passive design and does not rely on any mechanical forms of heating and cooling. A cellar has been incorporated for food storage and excess produce that comes from our kitchen garden. All of the toilets located on the farm are composting including the farmhouse.

Our large kitchen garden provides us with a source of organically grown produce in all seasons and we grow a range of flowers to attract bees and other beneficial insects.
